    Zyn's Trial Moderator Application

    Posted

Player information: Current in-game alias and or ranks: Jedi Council Master Zyn Previous notable Names/Ranks/Positions: N/A SteamID: STEAM_0:0:88064203 Steam profile Link: https://steamcommunity.com/id/NitchGaming Discord ID: nitch6783 List your current playtime on our Clone Wars RP servers (Main and Event server, you can use !time ^ in-game): 28d18h53 | 15,744 hours (Garry's Mod) What is your age? (Minimum of 14 years of age): 24 Do you have any active warnings? (Confirm with a staff member if unsure): Never have been warned, total or active. Application: What made you decide to join the staff team? What are your intentions with the staffing role and it's in-game abilities and power?: I have been playing on Gateway since February 2024 and have been actively contributing to the server. Here, I have spent my entire time playing my role as a Jedi and enjoyed every second of it. For Clonewars, I have made friends and memories here that will last a lifetime. This server and its players make a great community, and being here has been nothing short of a privilege. What made me decide to put in an application is that I want to do my part for this server. I understand this community has lasted several years, and that can only happen with its Staff Team, both Moderation and Event Masters and with its players. My life experience and previous experience in moderating, developing, and administering several Garry's Mod communities will benefit the team. Further, my time and experience within the Jedi Order reaching the Jedi Council has taught me a lot about players in a role of responsibility. In short, I want to volunteer myself to make the community better.  My intention with staffing and its in-game abilities and power is to utilize these tools to moderate the server and ensure all players have a safe, free, and fun place to play. Taking this role will make me a representative of Gateway Gaming, and I will do my best to ensure all players receive excellent service and a good experience while playing on our server. In a minimum of 50 words, express if and / or how you enjoy helping others? Also include how this will transfer into the staffing role if achieved: I love helping others daily in my outside occupation and within the server. Speaking on time in the server, I spent most of my time in the Jedi running classes, helping people improve, and giving someone a welcome friend. For new players, I invite them to play in a squad during events to give them their first positive experience on the server. With people joining, they start here without knowing anyone. I want to make their first experience fun and enjoyable, hoping they continue to play on the server and perhaps make a new friend. Further, I have organized a Jedi Tryout with Management and Council and donated to help players have experience in the Jedi. Often, these players are newer and people I've never met. They get a new, fun experience to play on our server. With this, more senior Jedi of the Order have been able to make friends, gain Padawans, and even, for some, make it to the current Council I sit on now. Making people happy gives me extreme joy, and further, being the person who has been the bridge for those people to play on Jedi has been one of the best things to experience. In my time as a Jedi Master and now Council, I like to help people learn the ropes, and I always like to invite them to message me on Discord if they need a question answered or need help. The number of times I was able to help someone in a situation has made me happy to help others. I believe this will transfer into the staffing role by putting me in a position to help people more. Answering tickets, helping with whitelists, and providing insight and help to players in situations would be an extreme privilege I would like to be there for. In short, I have loved helping others and want to volunteer to be that person for our players.  In a minimum of 50 words, if given a trial phase, how will you impact the community and what benefits will you bring to the staff team?: If given a trial phase, I will impact the community by providing friendly, fair service to those who require it. I will be here and open to answering tickets and helping players solve issues. Further, I will safeguard the server and its community, allowing our players to have fun. For my experience, I have worked my way up in Geetslys Gaming Network as a Moderator, to Administrator, to being selected to Manage the Imperial Server. In that time moderating, I learned to utilize ULX, Gmodadminsuite (Formally Billys Logs and Whitelist), and many other addons to maintain the server and continue its operation. Eventually, working my way up to Server Manager, I maintained the server's files, updated addons, and the content, along with managing both our Roleplay and Moderation teams. While in this position, I learned how to run multiple staff teams and manage a server. I was then promoted to Community Director. I managed several servers, including Imperial and Clonewars roleplays, installed a management team of Server Managers to run these servers, and ensured these communities could continue running. Ultimately, I stepped down from my position in late 2019. At that time, I took a very long break from Garry's Mod, where I worked toward my outside life, eventually coming to Gateway. I believe this experience would greatly benefit the staff team on the Moderation side and allow me to be a team player. I am a known player for the community here, and I feel as if I have always maintained a friendly demeanor and a community presence, which will help me solve problems for both longtime Gateway players and new ones coming to our community.  Conditions: Do you understand that as a member of the Staff Team, your position may be subject to change and / or termination should you not be performing to a given standard? This standard is varied, although a minimum of 20 hours per week is strongly advised. Do you understand that your application’s comments from other staff members are encouraged to be directed as harsh constructive criticism only and should never be intended to insult or discourage? I understand. Scenarios: Disclaimer - Be advised, extremely low effort answers for the following questions will result in your application to be either put on hold until a better standard is reached, or outwrite deleted. Please refer to previously accepted applications or ask a current staff member to then influence your own unique response. (Any forged responses will result in a denied application) KEY: Command Player interaction NOTE: I do not know which permissions I would have in the T-MOD user group; I will be writing this with that in mind. A user is RDMing and insulting other users. You are the only staff available to deal with the situation. What do you do? After receiving a report via ticket, I would !steamid [user],  !bring [SteamID] the reporting user and start by saying "Hello! I see you reported [User] for RDM and Verbal Abuse. Did you capture any clips of it? Was anyone else around to witness this?" At this point, I would collect this evidence or statements to use. I would then !logs (or !gas) and check the logs of the reported user to corroborate the statement and/or evidence or other players that have been RDM'd. Further, I could utilize !administrate ^ and !spectate [SteamID] to watch the offending user and collect more information or watch additional rule breaks. At this time, I would collect the steamid of the user (!Steamid user) in case they have changed names or left the server. Upon learning, more likely than not, the RDM and Player Disrespect did occur, I would !return {SteamID] the reporting user and then !sitbring [SteamID] the offending user. (Alternatively, I could !bring [SteamID] and !strip [SteamID] the offending user) From here, I would say, "Hello [offending user], I have received complaints of RDM and Player Disrespect against you." I would then talk with the offending user to see the situation out. I understand that sometimes RDM could be provoked or a grey area where something could have been through roleplay. I would take the time to hear the user out, see if this matched the clip and logs, and decide. Should rule breaks happen on both sides, I would reference the situation as a whole, repeating these steps with the reporting user and dulling out punishments as required. If witnessing this rule break, I would !sitbring the offending user and start by saying, “Hello, [User] I am bringing you into this sit for suspected RDM and Verbal abuse. I saw part of this situation and want to know why this is occurring.” From here, I would then !logs (or !gas) and check the logs of the user to locate other potential players involved. I would take this time to figure out the full situation and then decide. After looking at the totality of the circumstances and discovering more likely than not the rulebreak had occurred, I would utilize Awarn to !warn [SteamID] RDM the offending user. Should a hypothetical mass RDM ban occur, !ban [SteamID] 5d MRDM (5D) , I would ban first, then proceed to the warning of the player’s steam ID (steam or steam64). Before doing anything, I would say, “Based upon the statements and evidence, you will be receiving [punishment] for [rules] violated. In the future, please avoid [offenses] and perhaps handle them by creating a ticket. Do you have any questions? (Here, I would provide coaching to hopefully reduce re-offending in the future) If you feel this situation was not handled properly at any time, I encourage you to appeal on forums.” NOTE: For decisions I would make, these situations can be highly dynamic. I would utilize time and experience, looking at the entirety of the problem. I would also use staff resources for punishment guidelines depending on whether the investigation uncovered certain rule breaks. I would use Discord and ask another staff member for situations I may want a second opinion on. A user has contested a warn you have given him and proceeds to verbally abuse you, what do you do? I would first !sitbring [SteamID] the user to have a private conversation. At this time, I would record the sit to ensure it is appropriately handled for transparency. I would then initiate a conversation “Hello, user; I understand you may have concerns over a warning you received. Would you want to have a conversation about it?” In this scenario, the user would begin to abuse me verbally. I would attempt to de-escalate the situation verbally. Should de-escalation fail or be unfeasible, I would utilize intervention using the “Ask, Tell, Make” model. “User, why don’t we try to calm down so I can address your concerns? Can we please try to talk about this?” to “User, stop the verbal abuse. You will be muted if this continues.” to “User, I will now be muting you temporarily.”I would then !gag [SteamID] [2m]  the user if the situation called for it. Further, I could increase the gag times depending on the situation. Depending on this situation, I would request assistance from the next available staff member in the chain of command via in-game staff chat or Discord. This allows for interaction from an unbiased supervisor to ensure the sit is correctly handled while addressing the user’s concerns. Should the sit uncover improper procedures or a warning received in error, I would apologize to the user: “User, I apologize for issuing this warning as it was given in error. Thank you for your time and for helping me give better service to Gateway.” I would then ask the assisting supervisor to rescind the warning. If the warn was justified, and Staff Disrespect did occur, I would !warn [SteamID] Staff Disrespect, the user for Staff Disrespect. I would then tell the user “Based upon this situation, the warning will still be outstanding. Further, during our conversation, you violated our Staff disrespect rule. As such, you will receive an additional warning for this rule break. I understand you may not be happy with this outcome, but please try to remain calm in the future so we can have a better conversation.” I would then !sitreturn [SteamID] the user.   A user has threatened to DDos and take down the server. What do you do? I would start by documenting the threat, either by screenshot, recording, using in-game text chat, voice chat, or checking !logs and collecting the log of the message. Further, I could also open my console should it have been collected there. I would then !steamid [User] and collect the users steamid or copy it from !logs I would then !sitbring [SteamID] the user and state “Hello User, I see here that you communicated a DDOS threat against the server. This behavior is not tolerated. As such, you will be receiving a permanent ban.” (Please note I am unsure if I can permanently ban.) Based on this, I would !ban [SteamID] -1 DDos threat or !ban[SteamID] [max ban time I have] DDos Threat. I would then forward all information to a senior staff member. If I do not receive a timely response, I will go up the chain of command to ensure a member of senior staff or management is aware. In these cases, the threat may be carried out. I would like to ensure proper procedures are taken. I would also take the time to message a member of Imperial Staff in case the user attempts to move servers. This ensures the ban time can be updated, Imperial is aware as a lookout, and staff can adequately prepare if the server is offline.   A Commander and Lieutenant are arguing in front of debrief. It is getting quite heated. The context to the argument is unknown to you. What do you do? I would first address the situation at the lowest point possible. “Hey [users], how about we finish the debrief and maybe discuss it afterward in bunks or on Discord?” I would do this to avoid more users jumping in and to cease the disturbance. If the argument persists, I will pull both users into a sit using !sitbring [SteamID] to ensure the disruption does not continue and perhaps fix the issue. I would then inform the users calmly while trying to de-escalate the situation. “Hey guys, I just brought you both here because of the debrief going on. Would you guys want to try and hash things out here in private? I’ll hang around to ensure things go okay.” I would then hear more about the situation and offer guidance or coaching to solve the problem. I would also take this time to see if any rule breaks occurred. At this time, I would report the situation to a member of RHC to keep them in the loop and notify other staff members to monitor and address it as needed should it continue. If the situation began to get out of hand, or de-escalation from myself failed, I would advise both players using the Ask, Tell, Make model. “Alright, guys, this cannot be handled right here and now. Perhaps take the rest of the night to avoid each other and cool off. Address it privately together tomorrow” to “If you continue to refuse to stop the argument, I will have to start muting and kicking people. Please stop.” to “I have warned you both multiple times. You will now be muted” followed by !gag [SteamID] and !gag [SteamID] to both players. I would then address both “I will be watching you both, and sending you both back to base. If you continue to interact or cause disruptions, I will be forced to issue warnings and kicks.” Again, hypothetically, if both continued to argue and cause disruptions in the server, I would !kick [SteamID] Player Harassment | FailRP and !kick [SteamID] Player Harassment | FailRP along with !warn [SteamID] Player Harassment | FailRP and !warn [SteamID] Player Harassment | FailRP and continue to escalate intervention until peace can be restored. As a staff member, I want to ensure they can have discussions and even be upset with each other if they must. However, the effect on the rest of the players is important, and for these interruptions, I would interject for the betterment of the community. In the end, RHC and proper channels would be notified to ensure they track the issue. A Cadet has been complaining and wandering around because he hasn't been trained yet. He doesn't appear to have any intent to role play. What do you do? I would !steamid and copy the user's steamid and use !administrate with !spectate [SteamID] to watch the user and see what is going on. At this time,. If seen outside of the training area, I would !bring the user to me and begin a conversation “Hey [user] I noticed you were walking around outside of the training area. When first joining the server, it's important to stay here so we can get a trainer for you, my friend.” I would then request a trainer to come to the training room to give the cadet training. Since this is a staff interaction, I would /ooc and say “One SGT+ to the training room to help with Cadet Training. If I dont have a volunteer, I may need to take someone at random. Thank you in advance.” I would then either wait for that SGT+ to come to the training room or just !bring [SteamID] them. I would then pretend to leave, either by !cloak myself or by !spectate [SteamID] and watch the training to watch the user’s behavior. Should I witness the user refuse training or begin to start issues, I would use the Ask, Tell, Make model. “Hey, my friend, this [SGT+] is here trying to get you trained so you can have fun. Can we get through this training?” to “If you continue to refuse training, I will have to remove you from the server, and you will have to try again later” to “You have refused all other options; I will now be issuing you a warn and a kick. Please take this time to consider if you want to come back, get trained, and play.” I would then !kick [user] NITRP (No intent to Roleplay) and then !warn [SteamID] NITRP  the user. I would also thank the SGT+ for their time. “Hey, I’m sorry that happened. Thank you for stepping up for this,” and !return [SteamID] them or have them leave.   You notice a staff member abusing their permissions within the server. What do you do? I would first make efforts to collect information. I would record the abuse, check !logs, and screenshot killing, propspawns, etc. At this time, I would not message the staff member or let them know I have seen this information. The reason being that I would not want them to start using their permissions to wreck the server more than they already have (e.g. “Crashout”) I would then immediately escalate it to the next highest rank of the staff member and report the information I have collected. If they are unavailable, I will continue this process to ensure the abuse can stop and be appropriately handled by removing permissions before confrontation.   You get a report about a player abusing their tools and prop killing. What do you do? I would first take the ticket so the player knows a staff member is looking into it. I would not respond to the reporting player right away to ensure I control the abuse before it continues. I would then !spectate [SteamID] the user to watch for the abuse. At this time, I would see if it's actively occurring. If not, I would check !logs and check for suspicious kills, tool uses, or prop spawns. If the abuse is actively occurring and I witnessed it, I would !sitbring [SteamID] the user and talk about the behavior “Hey user, I noticed you were [abuse]. Is there any kind of reason you were doing this?” I would then uncover if the abuse was happening and then inform them, “Tools cannot be used for that. You will not be able to use tools for three days.” I would then !striptools [SteamID]. I would also check !warns [SteamID] if the player has previous warns for tool abuse. If so, I would !warn [SteamID] Tool Abuse | FailRP the user for tool abuse and inform them, “Due to the previous tool abuse, you will not be able to use tools for a week.” Further, I would investigate the propkilling under RDM, or for FailRP if applicable. In the case of a Mass RDM, I would !ban [SteamID] 5d MRDM, followed by !warn [SteamID] MRDM (5d). I would also talk to the reporting user to ensure they were spoken to and collect information.  END OF APPLICATION NOTE: For the current and former staff team, thank you to those who encouraged me to apply and for your confidence in me. Thank you for considering me to potentially join your team. THANK YALL
